Vanity je dvou?lenný projekt lidí z kapel CREEM, Natural Law nebo The Rival Mob a toto je CD verze LP, které vyąlo minulý rok na Katorga Works v po?tu 550 kousk?. Název kapely znamená Marnost a název alba pak n?co jako Marnost v ľivot?. Proti LP verzi tu najdete ?ty?i bonusové songy (z ?ehoľ jsou vąechny i v normální verzi ? Fuck Right Off, Might Trumps Thought, You Don´t Know a Bit´n Turned Rabbit). Tyto ?ty?i songy m?li p?vodn? vyjít jako promo kazeta a jejich zvuk je o n?co hrubąí. Kapela p?ed tímto LP má na kont? práv? kazetu (která vyąla ?áste?n? na Rock´n´Roll Disgrace Records). Kapely, které jsem zmínil a ze kterých pochází auto?i tohodle projektu (Colman Durkee a Evan Radigan) jsou spíąe z tvrdąího soudku, proto m? p?ekvapil zvuk Vanity. Jedná se o street rok´n´roll ve stylu 77 Chickswick kapel s kytarou s ocelovým zvukem, rychlou hi-hatkou, která udává tempo a basou, která si jede svoje vyhrávky alá Slaughter and the Dogs v písních jako Victims of Vampire nebo Boston Babies. K tomu p?idejte melancholický zp?v a máte zhruba zvuk Vanity. Celkem je tu 16 song? a n?které jsou v duchu ?istého rock´n´rollu ? nap?íklad Off Ya Go, Fuck Right Off (kde se skv?le st?ídají vokalisté) nebo hitovka The King Drinks, která je ur?it? reprezentativním vzorkem zvuku celého alba. Jsou tu ale i pomalejąí songy, jako nap?íklad Bal des Ardens nebo poslední New York City (nebo alespo? za?átek tohoto songu) ve kterém najdete i p?kné a táhlé kytarové sólo. Já osobn? se v takovém po?tu song? docela ztracím a to to má i s bonusy jen cca 34 minut. Jinak co musím pochválit to je obal, já tohle pouľití klasických maleb (ať uľ bitev nebo jakýchkoliv jiných) v kombinaci se street kapelou prost? m?ľu (a tady to koresponduje parádn? s názvem kapely i alba).

Vanity is two piece project of people from bands such as CREEM, Natural Law or The Rival Mob and this is CD version of LP which was released last year on Katorga Works in 550 copies. Compared with LP version, you may listen to four bonus songs (which are here also in regular versions - ? Fuck Right Off, Might Trumps Thought, You Don´t Know and Bit´n Turned Rabbit). These four songs should be released as promo cassette and their sound is little bit rougher. The band has released cassette before this LP/CD on Rock´n´Roll Disgrace Records. Bands which I mentioned above and which the people of this project come from (Colman Durkee and Evan Radigan) are harder and faster, and that´s why I was surprised with the sound of Vanity. It is some kind of street rock´n´roll in style of Chikswick 77 bands with guitar with steel sound, fast hi-hat which gives nice rhythm and bass with its solos like Slaughter and the Dogs in songs Victims of Vampire or Boston Babies. To this add vocal full of melancholy and you will receive Vanity sound. Together there is 16 songs and some of them are pure rock´n´roll - like Off Ya Go, Fuck Right Off (with nice changings of vocalists) or hit song The King Drinks which is representative sample of the album sound for sure. There are also slower pieces like Bal des Ardens or the last one New York City (the beginning of the song) with nice and long guitar solo. Me personally get little bit lost in 16 songs even the fact that the playing time is around about 35 minutes. I really like the cover because I like the use of classical paintings (battles or anything else) in combination with street band and this really fits to the band and album title.

Vanity is a two-men project between Colman Durkee (CREEM, Nuclear Spring, Natural Law) and Evan Radigan (The Rival Mob, Raw Meat, Wolf Whistle) that kicked it off last year with a three song cassette for Rock 'N' Roll Disgrace Records and Traitor Execution. Now, when 2014 is about to end, Vanity returns with their first full-length album "Vain In Life" for Katorga Works and pardon my French, it's fuckin' killer!

 

As you might have noticed both Colman and Evan, as well as their label Katorga, are better known for their hardcore releases, but Vanity... let's cut the crap here, is straight up Skrewdriver '77-all the way up to '84-era worship (oh shit, I can forget about the label sharing this review now) without the racial and supremacist bullshit they got swayed into (maybe I?m safe now). Raw British proto-/?77 punk, tough New York City streets' rock 'n' roll thrills and vicious sounding Oi! go hand-in-hand on this, fuck it, masterpiece of twelve underground kicks!

 

So if you are a ?Chiswick? lovin?, Lords Of The Sword thuggin? member of the bovver brigade cop this, you will be anything but disappointed with ?Vain In Life?! Rough, primal rock ?n? Oi! you skins, punks, bootboys and hooligans will love? Sick record!
